Safety and Wellbeing

Our Commitment to Child Safety

At Grimshaw St Early Learning Centre, your child’s safety and wellbeing is our highest priority. Child safety is not a standalone policy, it is embedded in our values, our daily practice, and the culture across every Advance Early Learning Centre.

We align with the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the National Quality Framework, supported by strong governance, clear procedures, and continuous improvement.

Every decision we make, from how we design our environments, to how we recruit, train, and support our educators is guided by one principle: children must feel safe, secure, and supported to thrive.

We value open communication and welcome questions, feedback, and collaboration as part of our shared responsibility for child safety.

Child-safe practices

Child safety is actively embedded into everyday practice across all our Early Learning Centres through clear systems, shared expectations, and consistent accountability.

We apply the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations to guide safe behaviours, decision-making, and interactions across every room and learning environment.

Dedicated risk and compliance processes operate continuously to support educators and leaders in maintaining high standards of safety and responding promptly when required.

Our educators participate in structured professional learning and ongoing safety training, ensuring they remain confident, vigilant, and well prepared in all situations.

Rigorous Recruitment & Professional Standards

Comprehensive Screening

All educators undergo a rigorous screening process including Working With Children Checks, identity verification, reference checks, employment history validation, and child safety suitability assessments.

Specialist Recruitment Team

Our recruitment team ensures only highly suitable, qualified educators join our service. We do not use agency staff and prioritise internal promotion to build strong, consistent teams across all centres.

Professional Development

Our educators participate in ongoing professional learning focused on child safety, risk awareness, first aid, anaphylaxis, asthma management, and safeguarding practices.

Family owned early learning centre leadership

Family Owned. Deeply Experienced. Community Focused.

We are proudly family owned and operated, with a long-standing commitment to early childhood education. Above all, we take responsibility for creating safe, supportive environments where children feel secure, valued, and protected every day.

With more than 30 years of experience in the sector, our leadership team has worked across every part of early childhood education. This depth of experience directly informs how we approach child safety, staff development, and the design of environments where risks are actively managed and wellbeing is prioritised.

We believe our hands-on approach strengthens trust, supports high-quality care, and ensures every decision is made with children’s safety, wellbeing, and development at the centre.

Learn More About Us

Strong Governance & Safeguards

Our policies ensure consistent child-safe practice across every centre.
We maintain strict procedures for incident reporting, supervision, emergency response,
and child protection escalation pathways.

Incident Reporting

We document all incidents carefully and communicate them transparently to families. We provide timely updates and clear communication to keep families informed, supported, and confident in how situations are managed.

Clear Procedures

Well-defined processes guide how we respond to concerns, ensuring consistent, timely, and appropriate action. This supports educators to act confidently and ensures every situation is handled with care and professionalism.

Regulatory Compliance

We consistently meet and exceed the National Quality Standards and Child Safe Standards across our centres. Ongoing review and monitoring ensure our practices remain aligned with current legislation and best practice.

Supporting Children’s Voice & Agency

Every child has a voice, and we actively support them to use it. In our centres, children express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas and take part in decisions that shape their daily experiences. We value each child’s voice and create opportunities for them to contribute in meaningful and age-appropriate ways.

We intentionally foster confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging by listening to children and responding with respect and care. This helps children develop trust in themselves and in the adults who support them.

We also embed learning around personal safety, body autonomy, and respectful relationships into everyday practice. We teach children their right to feel safe, help them recognise safe and unsafe situations, and encourage them to seek help from trusted educators whenever needed.

Safe Environments

We design our environments to support child safety, visibility, and active supervision at all times. We plan every learning space carefully to ensure clear sightlines for educators while giving children the freedom to explore, play, and learn in a calm, engaging setting.

Our layout, zoning, and flow in every detail to support smooth movement throughout the day and reduce supervision challenges. We structure indoor and outdoor environments to ensure children receive consistent support while developing independence and confidence.

Controlled Entry

Secure entry systems ensure only authorised families, staff, and approved visitors can access the centre. This helps maintain a safe and controlled environment at all times.

CCTV Security

CCTV monitoring provides additional oversight across key entry points and outdoor areas, supporting safety, security, and peace of mind for families.

Visibility Design

We design our open-plan layouts to support clear sightlines, so educators can effectively supervise children as they learn, play, and explore.

Collaborative Family Partnerships

We work in close partnership with families to build trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to every child’s safety and wellbeing. Recognising that families know their children best, we value their insights, perspectives, and involvement in daily practice.

Open communication is prioritised at all times. We support families to speak with educators and leadership whenever they have questions, feedback, or concerns. By working together, we create a consistent, supportive environment where children feel secure, understood, and able to thrive.

A Safe Place to Learn and Grow

We provide every child with a safe, nurturing, and respectful environment each day. Our centres create spaces where children feel secure, valued, and supported to be themselves. Through consistent routines, caring relationships, and thoughtfully designed environments, we build a strong sense of safety and belonging, which allows children to explore, learn, and grow with confidence. Our educators prioritise children’s wellbeing at all times and ensure they feel supported in every experience.

Managing COVID-19

Our team works hard each day to minimise the risks associated with the spread of COVID-19 to keep our children, families and staff safe as best we can. Guided by advice from the Victorian Department of Education and the Federal Department of Education, Skills & Employment, we have implemented additional safety measures alongside enhanced cleaning of high-touch areas.

Key safety measures include:

  • Check-in and hand sanitation stations on entry
  • Increased focus on outdoor programs & play
  • Air purifiers in every child’s room and staff lounge
  • Use of external air flow systems throughout the centre
  • Windows opened to support continuous fresh air flow
  • Drop-off procedures to reduce risk and support safe transitions.
